Whoever said you have to wait until Memorial Day weekend to throw a pool party is missing out on a lot of fun. With springtime weather creeping up into the 70s and 80s, spring is a perfect time to throw your year's first pool party. Here are some tips to make sure your spring pool party goes off without a hitch.
1. Check the Weather
While there are plenty of pool-weather days in the spring, there are also days where it seems like spring is hanging on to Old Man Winter. Before you choose the date for your pool party, make sure the weather report shows clear skies and sunny weather.
Have a backup plan in place in case the weather doesn't cooperate. For example, you could set up an indoor game room with games like darts and shuffleboard. Guests will still have fun even if they don't get to enjoy the outdoors.
2. Make Sure Your Pool Is Ready
If this is the first time you're using your pool this year, it's important to make sure everything is good to go. Have a pool maintenance specialist give your pool a thorough check to make sure all equipment works. You'll want to get any faulty equipment repaired or replaced well in advance of your party.
The pool specialist should also check pool chemistry levels and treat the water as needed. They should clean your pool to make sure it's as sanitary as possible for your guests.
3. Prepare Outdoor Entertainment
Not all your guests will want to swim, especially if temperatures are mild. Make sure you have plenty of other outdoor entertainment options to satisfy all your guests. Entertainment ideas include:
Fire up the grill and serve hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecued chicken or kebabs. Set up lounge chairs so guests can socialize and relax near the pool. Finally, add some outdoor speakers to play music.
4. Plan for Safety
If this is your guests' first pool party of the year, their excitement might make them reckless. Put safety measures in place to avoid accident and injury.
Consider hiring someone to act as a lifeguard during the party. As the host of the party, you'll be preoccupied with your guests and won't have time to watch over the swimmers' safety. Keep a life preserver and a first-aid kit near your pool as well.
Also, include a sign with pool rules near the pool. Make sure guests are aware of these pool rules before they jump in. One important rule is that all young children should be supervised by an adult.
A few pool updates are important to promote safety. Ask your pool mechanic to make sure your drain covers are up to standard. Drain covers prevent children from getting injured by the drain's powerful suction. If you plan to hold your party in the evening, install pool lighting. Lighting can prevent your guests from tripping in the dark.
5. Set up the Area
Just because you're throwing a pool party doesn't mean you have to go with a summer theme – especially if it's not summer yet! When you think of spring decoration themes, flowers probably come first to your mind. You could place flowers in vases on tables or stick flowers in the holes of your pool's fence.
Along with setting up decorations, you'll also need to set up other types of equipment. Make sure to provide towels and sunscreen for guests who may have forgotten them.
